Retrograde planets don't actually move backward. From Earth's vantage point, they appear to slow, halt, and reverse - an optical effect with real astrological weight, because that apparent reversal coincides with a specific quality of difficulty or deepening in whatever that planet governs. Mercury retrograde gets all the attention, but Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and the outer planets all retrograde, each with its own signature. Knowing which planets are currently retrograde tells you something about the kind of friction you're working with right now.

How it works

The tracker shows you every planet currently in retrograde, when the current retrograde began, when it ends, and which zodiac sign the retrograde is occurring in. You also see upcoming retrogrades so you can plan around them. The data is calculated from current ephemeris positions - not approximated, not generalized by year.

Understanding your result

Each retrograde description covers what the planet governs and how that reversal tends to manifest. Mercury retrograde disrupts communication, contracts, and transit - well-documented even in popular culture. Venus retrograde surfaces unresolved relationship dynamics and shifts in values. Mars retrograde slows momentum and sometimes reroutes misdirected energy. Saturn retrograde is a review period for structures and long-term obligations. The tracker gives you the specific flavor of what's active now, not a generic 'retrograde season' warning.

Frequently asked questions

Should I avoid making decisions during retrograde?

That's a common oversimplification. Retrograde periods ask for review and reconsideration, not paralysis. Some decisions made during Mercury retrograde work out fine; others genuinely benefit from waiting. Context matters more than the rule.

How many planets can be retrograde at once?

Several - outer planets (Jupiter through Pluto) spend a significant portion of each year retrograde. It's not unusual to have four or five planets retrograde simultaneously, especially in summer months in the Northern Hemisphere.

Does retrograde affect everyone the same way?

No. How a retrograde affects you depends on where it falls in your natal chart - which house and which planets it aspects. The tracker gives general conditions; a personal chart reading gives the specific impact.

How accurate is the timing?

The calculator uses current ephemeris data. Exact retrograde station moments are calculated to within the day.
